
PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 13, 2014) – Police detained a village chieftain who shot and wounded his daughter and another official during a heated argument in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Sur.
Police said Luis Romo, 63, and village chieftain of San Isidro in Pitogo town shot 51-year old Jose Olaiz, a village council man, during a scuffle for the gun following a heated argument. And Romo’s daughter, Emelyn Manguilimotan, 37, who was trying to pacify the duo had been hit with a stray bullet.
Both victims were rushed to hospital after the shooting, according to the police, who immediately took custody of the village chieftain.
Police said Romo, who was armed with a .357-caliber revolver, confronted Olaiz and the duo engaged in a heated argument. Olaiz tried to grab Romo’s gun after he fired once gun in the air and they grappled for the weapon until the village chieftain shot Olaiz.
It was unknown why Romo confronted Olaiz, but police said the two men had been at odds with each other. (Mindanao Examiner)
