ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 31, 2014) – A motorcycle gunman shot and killed a 32-year old villager in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said.

Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesperson, said Reyden Bioyo, a resident of Divisoria village, was shot several times on March 30 near the village of Tumaga Porcentro.

Dahlan said the gunman escaped with a female passenger after the attack.

“The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the different part of his body was rushed to Western Mindanao Medical Center for emergency treatment and later transferred to Zamboanga City Medical Center for further medication. He later died from his wounds,” Dahlan said. “Investigation is still going to determine the motive of the attack and those behind it.”

Policemen who responded to the shooting two bullet casings and a slug believed to be fired from a .45-caliber pistol.

Police are also investigating allegations that Bioyo may have been killed by his own companions after reports suggested that he was allegedly a member of a group of hired killers operating here.

“Unconfirmed reports said the victim was one of the members of a gun-for-hire group (who was) engaged and in cahoots with the series of killing elsewhere in the city. His wife likewise claimed that her husband had already signified and pronounced his intention to dissect himself from the group. Further claimed that the victim was allegedly engaged in the illicit activities of using prohibited drugs locally known as shabu with the group,” a police report said.

Police are also looking into illegal drugs as one of the motives in the killing. “Drug is one of the possible motives to be considered in the incident. Prior to the incident, the victim was coming from Savana Home Lodging House situated along Tumaga road together with the suspect and one female companion on board on a single motorcycle as riding in tandem heading towards the city proper. However, upon reaching at the nearby Happiness Motel in Tumaga Porcentro, the suspect driver alighted from the single motorcycle and shot the victim who was seated behind the motorcycle and after which, escaped together with the female back rider heading towards unknown direction,” the reports added.

Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where shootings are rampant. (Mindanao Examiner)
