Zamboanga residents benefit from 4Ps project

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 3, 2014) – Dozens of beneficiaries of the government Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in Zamboanga city have been chosen as scholars of the so-called “Kabalikat Farmer’s Training Program,” a joint project of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, SM Foundation, Harvest Agribusiness Corporation, and the Zamboanga City Agriculture Office.

The program aims to provide a 13-week training for farmers in growing and maintaining their own vegetable garden and it will also include lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, government media said.

It said the beneficiaries would be taught how to grow honeydew or melon, sweet corn, and other vegetable varieties. Under the program, scholars would get at least 200-square meters of land use after the training.

Dozens more farmers and agriculture technologist identified by the City Agriculture Office will also join the training.

Social Welfare Regionl Director Zenaida Arevalo, SM Foundation Assistant Vice-President Cristie Angeles, Harvest Agribusiness Manager Arsenio Toto Barcelona, and Zamboanga City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat attended the launching of the project.
